I.C.A. MARMI

The marble quarry originated in the late 1950s on land owned by a historic family of Flemish origin and, in 1966, was sold to a group of Florentine entrepreneurs. In 2008 it was acquired by ICA SRL and, since then, quarrying operations have been reorganised and modernised in full compliance with applicable regulations and the permits issued by the Municipality of Suvereto, with measures focused on environmental protection and aligned with local land-use planning.

Located in Località Montepeloso, Suvereto, nestled in the Tuscan hills among olive groves and vineyards, the site yields and grades two distinct categories of ornamental marble blocks—NOISETTE FLEURY® and GRIGIO FIOR DI BOSCO®—intended for wholesale distribution.

The layer is located on a small rocky outcrop named Monte Peloso entirely surrounded by the alluvial soils of the Val di Cornia.

Structurally it represents a calcareous “pillar” between two parallel subvertebral faults with an anti-appendinic direction which, by virtue of a lifting tectonic, literally “perforated” the lands overlapping it. This geological conformation has generated commercially interesting materials although not similar to a “marble” in the petrographic sense of the term as the original limestone rock did not undergo a metamorphic process.

The material, commercially known as Noisette Fleury and Grigio Fior di Bosco, reveals a heavily brewed complex with a colorimetric mirror that varies in a crescendo of nuances of rose (Noisette Fleury) to gray (Grigio Fior di Bosco), all interrupted by whitish veins which constitute the common denominator between the two pigmentations.

The quarry is included in the Urban Regulation with a dedicated zoning and has a unique SUAP authorization no. 63/2016 renewable twenty years issued by the Municipality of Suvereto. The mining site is organized in a primary and secondary unit, with physical adhesion but located on different sides of the salient; the cultivation of the open-air type takes place in the pit.

The design content and the evolution of the work allow you to have a reserve of potentially marketable materials of the order of hundreds of thousands of cubic meters which represent an undoubted guarantee of continuity for the future.

The staff currently working in the mining unit amounts to about 10 people including the Director of Works and the Supervisor; Producers have decades of experience and are supported in the production cycle by appropriate extraction technologies.
